MOTHER CITY has its West African Premiere at FESPACO
The 29th edition of FESPACO (Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou) held significant importance as a leading platform celebrating African cinema, culture, and the Pan-African movement. As one of the most prestigious film festivals on the continent, FESPACO showcases the rich diversity and creativity of African filmmakers, fostering global conversations about African stories, struggles, and triumphs.
In this year's competition, Mother City was proudly featured in the Documentary Competition for the Golden Stallion, one of the highest honors at the festival. Although the film did not take home the Golden Stallion, we were incredibly honored to receive the President Thomas Sankara Award for the Promotion of Pan-African Values. This prestigious recognition highlights Mother City's powerful contribution to the promotion of Pan-Africanism, unity, and social justice through the lens of cinema.
This award not only acknowledges the creative efforts of the filmmakers but also reinforces the ongoing importance of Pan-African values in shaping narratives and fostering solidarity across the continent. FESPACO continues to be a vital space for the celebration of African identities, cultures, and stories, and we are proud to be part of this year's historic edition.
